Magento Database Maintenance: All You Need To Know

It’s essential to update the old version of your Magento store as soon as possible to avoid any issues with other plugins that do not work correctly. Also, it is time to make sure you have tested the eCommerce store on your CMS. If not, then move to another one. If you are using PHP version 5+, this is not an issue, but you need to test your site manually if you are using a different version of PHP. How to start?

You can start by going to any Magento support website and clicking the “start-Magento-cms-repair tool” option. Once it starts to install and download the latest versions required for your CMS, you need to select the appropriate type of upgrade or create a new instance of an eCommerce store to proceed. The system will take 10 minutes to finish installing. 

After the installation, all the items from the current installation will be removed. Now, visit the homepage and go to ‘new.’ In the next few days, after login, you won’t see another page you didn’t create yet. You can easily switch back to the original installation if it does not work. To continue, it can be opened again by following the same steps. But now, you need to restart everything by clicking on the button shown on top of the toolbar.

Where is your database?

Your database is stored in.xml file, located inside your main folder (the homepage). Open that file and delete the content of every post, cart, product, etc. Then, open the file again and look for the information about your past orders and change that order.

How to find the data?

In your admin panel, scroll down until you reach the bottom, and on that page, there is a small box with ‘Data’ at the top of the screen. Click on that link, select the database you just deleted in step 1, and get many options. Select Magento 2 or 3, MySQL 4, PostgreSQL5, or any other version available. That’s it! That would allow you to access old records from the server without opening any specific file(s) on your computer.

Can I restore the database?

If yes, you need to sign in and register first before proceeding. From here, you can access to recover the database again. If there are no errors, save the changes and reload a copy of the entire database. To do so, you would need to click on the dropdown list and select Restore my database. A popup window should appear with new entries to retrieve on your computer.

What options are there?

In your front end, there are two main categories. On the left side, there are all the data records. And on the right side, there are a few fields where you can select the needed ones. For example, you may want to remove any user from the table as that user has no accounts. There are two options here. First, you can use the field where you will define the number of users in each respective category. Then you can choose from the provided choices to edit the field. 

The second option is based upon the relationship between two tables. This has the same option as the first one we mentioned. It is used when you have nested tables. So if you want to delete all nested tables and add one new one with fewer nested nodes, select the fourth one from the above options.

Do I need a password?

If no, then you can leave the field blank. The options are straightforward here, go to the settings page and search for the ‘Password’ or enter the password and press Save. You need to find the corresponding field and type out your password to edit it.

Restart Magento

After successfully saving all the changes in your database, navigate around Magento, log into the admin panel and select Reset, and refresh the whole store.

How often will the database be restored?
